Wadi Rum has one of the world's most impressive desert landscapes and is an absolute must see when you're in Jordan. You can discover this magnificent desert in a couple of manners.
One can possibly travel to Wadi Rum by own/rental car, which takes approximately 2,5 to 3 hours from Amman. At arrival one should check in with the so called Visitor Centre. Here you can rent a jeep with guide and make a reservation for an overnight stay at a Beduin camp, including dinner and breakfast
The next morning there's also the possibility to make a camel trip.
Another possibility to reconnoiter the desert is by an hot-air balloon. Although it's not the most cheap way of discovering Wadi Rum, it is a spectacular one.
During summer a "hot" music event, known as Distant Heat, takes place. For lovers of pop music this will be an unforgettable experience. For more information, check www.distantheat.com.
Because of the fact that in Wadi Rum one has to do with Beduins, it's advisable to respect the norms and values of their culture. Ample trousers and shirts with long sleeves will enforce more respect from the conservative Beduins and moreover you'll prevent a burned skin caused by the hot sun.
