The wealth and political power of the Nabataean people is derived from their control of the international trade routes. Lost to outsiders for hundreds of years, Petra has been a symbol of the hidden treasures of the Near East since its rediscovery in 1812. Later on the village of Wadi Musa originated around Petra.

The sights
Your visit to Petra starts with the journey into the mountain-ringed city along the Siq. A winding, one kilometer long fissure through surrounding and overhanging cliffs. At the end you will be amazed by the breathtaking beauty of one of Petra's most impressive monuments, the treasury or al Khazneh, which suddenly looms up.
