The North

Jerash
The well preserved Roman city of Jerash is one of the most important sights of Jordan. For centuries it was hidden in the sand and 90% is still unexcavated. You can enjoy here walking through paved and colonnaded streets, see hilltop temples, squares and plazas, baths and fountains.
In July every year, the Jerash Festival which features local and international folklore dancers, ballet, concerts, plays and handicrafts is held here in the dramatic surroundings of the Jerash ruins.

The north of the country
The landscape of northern Jordan is especially in springtime very beautiful with its wild flowers and pine and olive trees. The Dibbeen Nature Reserve and Ajlun Nature Reserve are beautiful spots for having a picnic or barbeque.
The Ajlun Castle, Qasr al Rabat, is a beautiful, well preserved castle which is visited a lot by tourists as well as by locals.
From Ajlun, you can pass by Irbid, the second large city of Jordan, and visit the ruins of Um Qeis. From here you can have beautiful views on the Lake of Tiberia and the Golan Heights in Syria.
Pella is situated southwest of Um Qeis and is favorite by archeologists because of the extraordinary richness of antiquities.
A visit to the north of Jordan is best by car, because there is no public transportation.
